There are prisons that are severely overcrowded, have a high degree of violence, and do not provide inmates with adequate medical care.
Here is a list of the top 10 most dangerous prisons in the world.

10. La Modelo, Columbia

La Modelo is a prison in the Colombian capital city Bogotá. The prison, which houses 11,000 convicts, is notorious for its brutality.

The north wing of the prison houses left-wing insurgents, while the south wing houses right-wing government loyalists and paramilitaries. Many of the prison’s homicides take place in the region between these two wings.

9. Tadmor Prison, Syria

Tadmor prison is located in Palmyra, a desert town in eastern Syria, around 200 kilometers northeast of Damascus. Tadmor jail was renowned for its poor living conditions, widespread human rights violations, torture, and mass executions.

Detainees were tortured and killed either being dragged to death or being hacked up with an ax.

Vladimir Central, also known as Vladimir Prison, is a prison in Vladimir, Russia. It is Russia’s largest prison, with a capacity of 1220 prisoners, and is managed as a maximum-security prison by the Federal Penitentiary Service, with the majority of convicts receiving 10 years to life sentences.

4. La Sante, Paris

La Santé Prison is a prison administered by the French Prison Service of the Ministry of Justice, situated at 42 Rue de la Santé in the 14th arrondissement of Paris, France. It is one of France’s most notorious prisons, including Elite and highly secure wings.

It was established in 1867 and has housed some of the world’s most notorious criminals. Conditions were so awful that some inmates drank drain cleaner or rat poison to commit suicide so they wouldn’t have to cope with the suffering.
